Hi, I'm Matthew. I just finished my Honours B.Sc. in Computer Science and Biology at McGill. I originally grew up in Toronto, then I spent four years in Montréal for uni, and a semester on exchange at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

Work

  1. Data Science and AI Intern

    Aug 2026 – Present

    Chime Biologics · Wuhan, Hubei, China

    • Designed and developed an on-premises agentic workflow to convert Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) batch production records into structured, queryable data for analytics, visualizations, and AI agents.
    • Architected a workflow combining deterministic parsing and AI to derive typed schemas from controlled Word templates, map OCR-extracted values from scanned records into those schemas, and persist the structured output in a relational data model.
    • Evaluated and integrated local vision and language models including DeepSeek, MinerU, PaddleOCR-VL, and Qwen to improve extraction accuracy and reliability for GMP batch records.

  2. Research Assistant

    May 2025 – Dec 2025

    Shared Reality Lab · Montréal, QC, Canada

    • Developed a full-stack prototype using Python, TypeScript, Next.js, and Bun that leveraged LLMs to automatically tag natural language messages with Controller-Pilot Datalink Communications (CPDLC) markup.
    • Designed human factors and HCI experiments and planned user testing with controllers and pilots to evaluate usability, performance, situational awareness, accuracy, and error recovery.

  3. COMP 273 Course Assistant & COMP 250/251 TEAM Mentor

    • Led weekly tutorials and office hours covering Java, object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and algorithmic complexity for COMP 250 and COMP 251.
    • Helped students understand digital circuits, assembly programming, and computer hardware architecture.

  4. Research Assistant

    May 2024 – Dec 2024

    Social and Technological Systems Lab · Toronto, ON, Canada

    • Co-designed and developed CogniPrompt, applying human-AI interaction principles to a conversational user interface for assisting people with dementia, helping with daily tasks, memory, and social companionship.
    • Integrated a local self-hosted Llama 3.1 large language model using Ollama with function calling and retrieval-augmented generation.
    • Developed a full-stack web application using Next.js, WebSockets, and Flask, deployed on Ubuntu Linux with a MySQL database.

  • Jet Lag: The Player

    Next.js, MapLibre, TypeScript

    • Built an unofficial companion for watching Jet Lag: The Game.
    • Live dashboards follow each season's maps, routes and scores alongside the episode you're watching.

  • Draftbox

    TypeScript, Hono, Cloudflare Workers, D1, R2, WorkOS

    • Built a CLI and cloud service using Cloudflare Workers, D1, and R2 with WorkOS authentication to let LLM agents publish and share versioned standalone HTML artifacts.
    • Automated testing, versioning, and npm package publishing using GitHub Actions and release scripts.
